Dave & Maisie’s Wedding: Where It All Started—Even If We Didn’t Know It at the Time

A Wedding Six Years in the Making

Our wedding journey began all the way back in 2016, when Dave and I first got engaged. Like many couples, we imagined a traditional celebration — and I dove head-first into planning. Around that time, I started working at a holiday park while studying, which is where I met Judy. She was also working there and already had years of experience as a florist.

We quickly bonded over our shared love of creativity and design. Before long, we were styling the park’s themed events and owners’ parties together. That friendship, built on shared ideas, hands-on work, and a love for making beautiful things, eventually became the foundation of the floral and styling business we now run.

So when it came to my wedding (which turned out to be more of a saga than a single day), I couldn’t imagine anyone else creating the flowers but Judy.

A Vision: Whimsy Meets Tradition

Dave and I  both dreamed of a fairytale-inspired day, but also had deep roots in tradition — I was close to my Nan, and Dave’s mum shared that same generational warmth. So we aimed to blend the whimsical and the classic, making something that felt romantic, personal, and rooted in family.

My dress, with its embroidered floral details, reflected this mix beautifully. I found it in a charity shop, a bridal sample donated by a bridal boutique,  and it instantly felt like the one.

The Florals: Thoughtful, Personal, and Symbolic

Judy worked her magic with the florals — incorporating seasonal elements and high-quality artificial blooms to represent flowers that were meaningful to me but out of season. Each arrangement was intentional and heartfelt.

My bridal bouquet, in particular, was deeply personal. I wanted it to be a tribute to the women who came before me and the favourite flowers of some of the most important “girlies” in my life. As someone who’s quite sentimental, it meant everything to carry something that honoured them as I walked down the aisle—they shaped the woman I am today. This vision came with some seasonal challenges, but we found beautiful substitutes: a rich burgundy peony, lily of the valley (my nan’s wedding flowers), and a passion flower (the favourite of my Maid of Honour), among others. The result was a bouquet filled with meaning, memory, and love.

A Ceremony Full of Heart

Our vow renewal ceremony and celebration reception took place at Fort Burgoyne in Dover. It was one of the only venues left with all the 2020 back logs but it had its own charm.

Having tied the knot a few years earlier we had the flexibility of doing the ceremony our way which was really exciting. We decided to opt for a celebrant-style wedding and asked one of our closest friends to lead it. Filled with the original readings from what would have been our first wedding but combined with some fun and natural remarks from our friend it became the perfect, personal ceremony.

Styling with Meaning (and Fairy Wine Glasses)

We originally planned round tables with centrepieces in our old venue. For our new wedding we switched to long trestle-tables suitable for serving an afternoon tea on, so there wasn’t space for the large designs I’d imagined. That’s when I found a cute idea on Pinterest: a fairy in a wine glass.

It fit the venue’s whimsical feel perfectly. Then I added quotes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream (my favourite Shakespeare play — more fairies, of course), and the centrepieces became one of the most personal touches of the day. My bridesmaids helped me make all the wine glass fairies, and it’s still one of my favourite memories from the lead-up.

The venue provided hessian styling — and although my taste has evolved since becoming a wedding stylist (you’ll see from our work that I love a pop of colour!), hessian was definitely in back then, and I rolled with it.

We wove that romantic, literary vibe into other elements too, adding quotes to our signage, menus, and decor to make everything feel connected — magical, meaningful, and very us.

A Celebration to Remember

The day was filled with love, meaning, and everything we had hoped for. It beautifully blended whimsy with tradition, relaxed yet full of heart. One of my favorite memories will always be the stunning florals by Judy, which truly brought the day to life and made it even more special.

Although it wasn’t the wedding I originally envisioned, it was deeply personal and reflected what we truly love. The thing about weddings is that it’s easy to get caught up in trends. But if you focus on what you love, no matter how much time passes, you’ll still cherish it. The industry is constantly pushing new ideas—often to encourage couples to spend more—but that’s never been our approach, and it has no place in our business. Judy and I both believed in looking beyond trends and not spending just for the sake of spending when we planned our own weddings. That belief continues to guide how we design floral arrangements and style weddings for our client’s every day.

Let’s Create Something Meaningful Together

Your wedding should be a reflection of who you are, not just the latest trend. If you’re ready to design a wedding that’s personal, timeless, and full of meaningful touches, we’d love to help bring your vision to life. Let’s create something beautiful, just for you.
